How to Keep Warm While Camping

Keeping warm while camping requires multiple steps. First and foremost, make certain you pack appropriate clothing. If possible, wear wool clothing and then layer on cloths as needed. Wool clothing is especially effective during rainy and damp conditions. Wearing sweats under your clothes helps hold in body heat. When preparing for bed, make sure to cover your head. This prevents loss of heat through your head. As a matter of fact, keep the feet, hands and head covered all night. They are main avenues through which heat is lost from the body. Maintaining body heat through proper clothing helps hold the body heat close to the body.

The bedding is your next step to staying warm during a camping trip. If possible, sleep on a cot. Removing your body from the ground holds the heat in your sleeping bag. If you are not able or do not prefer taking a cot along with you, try placing a bedding of hay between you and the ground. Although your sleeping bag may guarantee warmth to a certain temperature, add a blanket or two. That way, you will ensure your sleeping comfort.

Prepare your tent for the night. If possible, place a blanket or two over the top of the tent. This will hold the heat in; especially if the night is windy. Place straw on the floor of the tent. This helps hold the cold air close to the floor. Also, try to go to the restroom before zipping the tent for the night. You will not lose heat tracking back and forth to a potty area.

It only takes a few basic steps to stay warm while camping. Having an ample supply of clothing with you, in case of emergencies, will ensure your comfort and avoid the chill of being outside. You can always make a fire for added warmth as well, but maintaining it all night is pretty much not possible if you are asleep. However, the coals will be warm for hours.
